Manufacturing: Steps Towards a New Industrial Revolution

New technologies are profoundly changing industrial production, giving rise to “smart manufacturing”. Both IoT and 5G are two of the most important enabling technologies. The future of technology will be clean, highly performing, environmental friendly and socially sustainable. These priorities have been agreed within the wide community of stakeholders across Europe, after extensive public consultation.

Five FoF Projects Join Forces to Put Workers at the Centre of Future Manufacturing

In 2009, 31 million people were employed in the EU manufacturing sector, with each job in manufacturing generating at least one additional job in services.

Fast forward to 2018 when five Factories of the Future projects (A4BLUE, Factory2Fit, HUMAN, INCLUSIVE, and MANUWORK) join forces to from a cluster focusing on worker-centred manufacturing. The cluster will be a forum for sharing projects’ knowledge, progress, and results as they emerge.

According to the participating projects, the solutions which they are developing will bring a wide range of benefits for workers, employers, and wider industry in Europe, including:

• Increased adaptability to provide workers with personalised tasks,
• Improved quality of products and increased productivity,
• Increased worker satisfaction,
• Stronger global position of industry in Europe through higher social acceptance levels.

By combining their efforts, the projects hope to achieve greater impact and wider adoption of these new developments in advanced manufacturing systems.

Factories of the Future for Automotive Sector Workshop Presentations Available

The European Factories of the Future Research Association recently hosted a Workshop in Brussels, Belgium, titled Factories of the Future for the Automotive Sector.

The Presentations from the recent Factories of the Future of the Automotive Sector Workshop are now available online.

The workshop was centred on project results and was co-organised by the European Factories of the Future Research Association (EFFRA), the European Road Transport Research Advisory Council (ERTRAC) and the European Green Vehicles Initiative (EGVIA). The aim of the workshop was to showcase results of projects that address manufacturing in the automotive sector and provide opportunities for networking between project presenters and the 140 participants.
